π About the Author
Haruki Murakami was born in Kyoto and raised in the Kobe area. Before dedicating his life to writing, he and his wife, Yoko Takahashi, owned and operated a jazz bar called "Peter Cat" in Tokyo for seven years. His decision to become a writer came to him as an epiphany while he was watching a baseball game in 1978. Murakami is celebrated for his imaginative, dreamlike narratives that often explore themes of loneliness, alienation, and parallel realities. Beyond his novels, he is also an avid long-distance runner and a translator of Western literature. He has received numerous international honors, including the Franz Kafka Prize and the Jerusalem Prize.
