📝The Correspondent: A Novel — My Honest Review

Written and reviewed by . The opinions and rating in this review are my own.

Summary:

The story follows a journalist who gets a bit too close to the story she’s covering. After a series of strange events, she realizes that someone is watching her every move, turning her life into a living nightmare. It’s a tense, "can’t put it down" kind of book that looks at the dark side of obsession and the price of seeking the truth.

✅ What I Liked

1.The atmosphere is super tense from the very first chapter.
2.The "behind the scenes" look at the journalism world felt very authentic.
3.The ending actually felt earned and wasn't a total cliché.

❌ What Could Be Better

1.There were a couple of side plots that didn't really go anywhere.
2.Some might find the main character a bit hard to root for at times because she’s so driven.

Honestly, The Correspondent is one of those books that makes you want to double-check that your front door is locked. Virginia Evans does a great job of building up that slow, creeping feeling of dread. The main character is a reporter, and you can tell the author really understands that world, the pressure to get the scoop and how easy it is to cross a line you can’t come back from.

The plot twists aren't just there for shock value; they actually make sense within the story, which I really appreciated. Sometimes thrillers feel like they’re trying too hard to trick you, but this felt more like a psychological game. The writing is sharp and moves fast, so it doesn't feel like a chore to get through the descriptive parts. If you like stories where the protagonist is slightly unreliable or just completely over their head, you're going to enjoy this. It’s a solid, gritty look at how a career can consume your personal life until there’s nothing left but the shadow of someone following you.

💡 Context Behind The Book

Virginia Evans has a knack for writing high-stakes suspense. She’s known for creating characters that feel like real people—flawed and sometimes making bad decisions—which makes the danger they face feel a lot more urgent.
