πEpiloguely Editorial Review
Written and reviewed by Shadab Alam.
Okay so i picked this one up mostly because of the title. I liked the idea of a woman who nobody notices and i was curious where they would take that. The premise sounded fun and honestly pretty clever. A former fbi agent who is the right person for the job not because she is young or physically impressive or tactically brilliant but because society has spent the last decade and a half looking straight through her. I thought that was a genuinely interesting angle and i went in with decent expectations.
And for the first chunk of the book i was having a really good time. Elinor is funny. Like actually funny, not in a forced or try hard way. She is sarcastic and self aware and she knows exactly how the world sees her and she has made her peace with it while also being quietly annoyed by it, which is a very specific and very relatable combination. She arrives at the house with zero experience with babies, zero experience with difficult teenagers, and somehow also has to deal with two dogs she did not sign up for.
